A scholar of Hebrew literature, Ezra Spicehandler, has remarked that, with a few exceptions, "the achievement of American Hebrew writers of fiction is rather meager." Yet surely American Hebrew writers do not deserve their obscurity, and recently more and more young Israelis have described American characters and settings in their work.
